Wow! Okay! Sorry for the delay in updating. I’ve been back in Ghana for two weeks and all is well. Actually right now I should be on a bus to Kumasi, but the people at the bus station said the bus is MIA and might not show up until 1 pm. It was supposed to leave at 8 am. I think the fact that I’m not really that annoyed by this is a good indicator that I’ve been in Ghana for a while….
I’m headed down south for two conferences – Close of Service and All Volunteer. I’m pretty pumped because there is a pool, rooms with AC and way too much delicious food. I’ll take it. Also, at COS we’re picking our COS date, the day we are officially finished here. I’m thinking mine will be in late July…I’m also probably going to be taking a trip to Turkey/Georgia before coming home. What! Yes.
Let’s see, what has happened since I’ve been back? (America was great by the way!) Well, little Jude next door is no longer fearing me. Yesterday he nakedly toddled into my house and we played with jars of wheaty and rice. Low tech fun. I also had fun playing Frisbee with Ennis. There are no students at school now, so I’ve really just been hanging out. So much of my life here is hanging out, esp on break times. Not that I’m complaining. I read Johnathan Franzen’s The Corrections in four days. I amazed myself with my culinary genius when I mixed cocoa powder into my oatmeal. I take impromptu naps on my floor and sweat. Same old same old.
One strange thing is that now, after being back for a couple weeks, my time in America doesn’t really seem real. And the same thing happened when I was there – Ghana didn’t seem real. Other things I noticed when I was home: I felt more disconnected from the world than I do here, simply because I wasn’t listening to the BBC everyday, I read very little of the novel I was working on (mostly due to nephew fun and Glee…), people talk about really ridiculous and pointless things on tv and radio, huge cinnamon rolls are sent from above, I totally miss being around cultural peers all the time. Hm!
Although I’m very content coming back to my life here, I know I will be very happy to return to America for good. For now, I really feel like I am appreciating things more about my life here (free time, naked children) and that that is a good thing

I loved The Corrections; it reminds me of St. Louis—did you know Franzen’s from there?
Do you think I should bring my yoga mat to Ghana? It’s so bulky, but I feel like yoga is one of the few reasonable forms of exercise in such a hot climate. And I’m guessing that a yoga mat is not one of those things I’ll be able to pick up at the market.

I would definitely bring it. I brought mine and use it almost every day. Also, definitely not available at the market

It was sure nice to see you and know you are doing well.
