Holy moly, I’m ready to get out of the sweat/shower cycle. Accra is less of a furnace than the Upper East, but still. Still. And, totally mixing up the cycle, have been the freezing cold places – the bus ride here, this internet cafe and, soon, the airport.

Bam Shazam – The Airport!

My flight home is tonight, departing at 10:15 pm. I’ll get there at least five hours early, because I am travel paranoid. Oh, this was funny: I went to the PC office to get my WHO yellow fever card and on the way I ran into my boss, Joe Bee. When I told him I was going home he said “Oh, let me tell you, I need sweets.” and I said “Okay! What kind do you want?” I was about to ask a general question like ‘do you like chocolately things or fruity things or…’ when he was like “CREAMSAVERS! I want creamsavers.” Which is just funny, because 1. it is a very specific request and 2. where/when did he have creamsavers before? So I laughed and said, okay, I would bring him creamsavers.

Everything in Accra has been normalnormal. The bus ride here went fine and was a speedy 13 hours. I’m staying at Gilbert’s, which is always a pleasure, and am eating delicious and cheap kenkey/banku a lot. The night I ate kenkey, a young Nigerian man sat with me and commented on how he didn’t like Ghanaian food, he was only ever eating rice. He is here for school and I just thought it was silly that I was totally enjoying this big ball of fermented corn dough and he was just plugging through his rice. And his name was Caleb, which I haven’t heard before. Hm!

See you in America!
