1. Two nights ago, I walked to the dam and ran into this man that I sometimes run into at the dam. His name is Steven and I’ve never seen him wearing anything but an old sports jacket and a pair of old boxers. He pulled three fresh fish out his bag and gave them to me. They were still twitching. It was slightly weird, but the fish were good. Fataiya, Jamilu and I ate them with banku last night. I like when strange things happen.
2. Multiplication practice continues. They’re getting better (hooray!) and I’m getting much better with rapid number recognition. My favourite number sign is 21. Instead of just 2-1, it has its own sign. Imagine that you are rapidly squirting a little water gun. That is the sign for 21.
3. Agana/Jude, the baby next door, is no longer scared of me! This is very welcome. Yesterday we shared a carrot and a moment. Small small.
4. After the news on Ghana TV last night they showed a convention of Gonjas in Accra. The main speaker was talking about someone distinguished and said “May he live long…and prosper.” I burst out laughing, because, really, live long and prosper? The unexpected Star Trek reference in a totally nonhumerous situation is too much. Also too much = the condom commercials. I always die laughing during them and Fataiya and Jamilu think it’s funny.
5. Yesterday I did art with KG2 for the first time ever. They are little little kids. I just told them to draw whatever they wanted. When they figured out that there was no ‘right answer’ they got totally pumped. It was adorable and super fun. Jamilu teaches that class, so I got to hang out with him at the same time.
