So here are some pictures from working on making our beads!
This is the first step – the glass pounding. The bottles go into the metal mortar and are pounded until fine. The powder is sifted, the bigger chunks go back into the mortar, etc. until all the glass is finely pounded. Attached to the bottom of the pounding stick is a metal tip.
The next step is putting the sticks (from the ground, from brooms). The sticks fit into small holes inside the larger holes. When sticked, the molds look like this..
The sticks will burn away, leaving the holes in the center of the beads. Get it?!?! Next we fill the molds with the glass powder.
After the molds are filled, they look like this…
At this point, the molds go into the oven! Which is being made now. More pictures to come!
